There are several things you should consider when choosing what type of filtration system to buy.
Researching what’s in your water is a simple place to start. Find out what’s in the water you drink. You can do this by contacting the EPA or contacting your particular water district. If you know what you would like to eliminate then it makes it easy to start searching for specific filters that eliminate the contaminant you need it to.
You also need to take a look at how much water you drink in your household. In many cases if you have a family that consumes a lot of filtered water then it makes sense to invest in a sink water filter with a larger water filtering capacity. However, if you live alone and you do not need or have room for a large capacity filter than a carafe/pitcher type filter might do just fine.
Here’s a nice video put out by consumer reports that explains what you should know before you buy a water filter.
